Kofi Addo Annan

Kofi Addo Annan pursued an MPhil in Power Systems Engineering. His research interests are Power Systems Optimisation, Power Electronics, and Transportation Electrification.

His research focused on component-wise prognostics of power electronic converters. The work leveraged a time-series Encoder-Transformer and an adaptive opposition-based learning electromagnetism-like optimised Gaussian Process Regressor to predict the remaining useful life of electrolytic capacitors and semiconductor switches such as IGBTs and MOSFETs. He noted that these were the critical power converter components requiring monitoring to effectively schedule predictive maintenance, thereby preventing in-service failure and alleviating extended downtimes and financial losses for companies.

He acknowledged the role of the KNUST Engineering Education Project (KEEP) in enriching his academic journey by providing an internship opportunity, expressing his gratitude for the support received from its staff and management.

He also acknowledges Dr Francis B. Effah and Prof. Emmanuel A. Frimpong for their invaluable support and guidance throughout his studies.

He intends to pursue further work in data-driven decision-making techniques and advanced optimisation algorithms for power converter reliability studies and power systems optimisation
