Reamy Womodowe Achirobe

Reamy Womodowe Achirobe is an MPhil candidate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). His research focuses on applying machine learning and infrared thermography for detecting and classifying defects in crystalline photovoltaic (PV) modules in Ghana.

Through his work, Reamy has developed deep learning architectures, namely SDCNN and VGG-16, to automatically identify and categorise PV module defects such as patchwork, block, shading, and single-cell anomalies. His models have achieved a detection accuracy of up to 93.5%, demonstrating the potential of AI-assisted thermal imaging to enhance the reliability and efficiency of solar energy systems. This pioneering study represents one of Ghana's first efforts to integrate artificial intelligence and infrared diagnostics in PV system maintenance.

The KNUST Engineering Education Project (KEEP) has supported his academic pursuits by providing full funding for his MPhil studies. Reamy is deeply grateful for the encouragement and guidance received from the staff and management of KEEP.

He aims to advance his research in renewable energy systems, computational thermofluids, and AI-driven diagnostics. He aims to develop scalable, data-driven frameworks for predictive maintenance and energy optimisation across Africa’s renewable energy sector.
