The maiden Industrial Advisory Board Meeting (IAB) was held on 8TH November, 2019 at the Associated Consultants Limited, Kokomlemle, Accra. The Industrial Board Members who participated were Ing. Kofi Asare-Yeboah who is Board Chairman of Associated Consultants Limited and is also Chairman of the IAB, Mrs. Patricia Obo-Nai (CEO, Vodafone), Dr. Ben K.D. Asante (CEO, Ghana Gas Company), Dr. Victor Atiemo Obeng (DOW Chemical Company), Ing. William Amuna (Technical Controller, Millennium Development Authority), Nana Akua Brenya Boateng (Board Secretary). The team from KNUST comprised of Prof. Mark Adom-Asamoah (Provost, College of Engineering), Prof. Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko (Project Lead, KEEP), Dr. Jerry John Kponyo (Deputy Project Lead, KEEP), Mr. Kwadwo Nyantakyi Marfo (Project Manager, KEEP) and Mr. George Asante (Project Accountant, KEEP).
The IAB gladly accepted the responsibility given to them and said that they would work to the best of their ability to ensure sustainability thus adopting the slogan “KEEP BEYOND AID”. Both teams used the opportunity to introduce themselves to each other.
Prof. Mark Adom-Asamoah gave an exhaustive presentation about the history of the College of Education (COE). He highlighted on the current numbers, various faculties and departments, research centres, scholarship avenues and the three (3) African Centres of Excellence and the Emerging Centre of Excellence in the Gambia. Prof. Kwabena Nyarko gave also gave a presentation on the background, vision, objectives and the Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLI’s). He also highlighted on the output, outcome and vision of success for the project, implementation plan and the first year activities.
The last two presentations were given by Dr. Jerry John Kponyo. The first presentation touched on activities that have been undertaken so far under the KEEP which highlighted the basic and full readiness, quantity of students admitted into the PhD and MSc programmes, disaggregating them into national, regional and females. He also made mention of the Student Country coverage so far, the advisory boards and the Project Management Team. Dr. Kponyo’s second presentation touched on the Innovation/Incubation centre where he highlighted on some of the works undertaken by the students. This area really thrilled the IAB members and they encouraged the COE to keep up the good work.
