The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Higher Education, Gambia, MOD A.K Secka paid a courtesy call on the KNUST Engineering Education Project’s (KEEP) management team on Tuesday 26th October 2021.

His visit was as a result of Gambia’s involvement with KNUST through the World Bank’s African Center for Excellence (ACE) Impact project. KNUST is a mentor institution for the Gambian Technical Training Institute (GTTI).

The mentorship mandates College of Engineering (CoE) to provide mentorship in curriculum and staff development (upgrade of lecturers to obtain Doctorate degrees) in order to meet the ever-changing standards in the industry. CoE assists GTTI with issues of academic governance and infrastructural development to address the current challenges of training in Engineering.

He mentioned that there are a lot of potential future collaborations between KNUST and GTTI due to the vision of transforming the Gambian Technical Training Institute into a University of Applied Science Engineering and Technology (USET) and expanding USET into other engineering areas such as Petroleum Engineering.  USET programs will have the same standard as KNUST engineering programs due to the mentoring program, he added.
