Congratulations Emmanuel Afriyie

Emmanuel Afriyie is a graduating MPhil student from the Materials Engineering Department at KNUST.
His research interests include biomaterials and biosensing, nanotechnology, and functional materials for Sustainable Development. 

In his research, KOH-activated carbon was synthesised and characterised from shredded waste PET bottles to remove cadmium, mercury, arsenic, lead and nickel from polluted water samples from River Oda in Ghana. 

Bentonite clay was modified by an acid activation technique to act as a catalyst to assist the carbonisation of the shredded waste PET and investigate its effect on carbon yield.
The obtained results after the carbonisation showed that the bentonite catalyst improved the carbon yield proportionally.
